Kotor is a coastal town at the head of the Bay of Kotor, a deep sea inlet ringed by steep mountains that resembles a fjord. The medieval old town, protected by UNESCO, is among the best-preserved on the Adriatic, with walls that climb the rock to the fortress above the town. Kotor is a destination for views, history and walks more than for a beach holiday. For Macedonian visitors it is an appealing stop on the Montenegrin coast, reachable by car. Summers are hot and dry, with August sea temperatures of around 27°, and the season runs from late May to mid-September.
