About Brezovica

Brezovica is a ski centre on the Šar Mountains, on the Kosovo side of the massif, above the village of the same name in the Sirinić area. For skiers from Macedonia it is the closest foreign ski resort, a short drive from Skopje and from the Polog valley, which has for decades made it a favourite day destination for winter sports. We share the same mountain, since on the Macedonian side of the massif lies Popova Šapka, so the two ski areas are neighbours on one and the same range. The terrain climbs high on the mountain, mostly on north-facing slopes where the snow lingers long, so Brezovica is known for one of the longest natural snow seasons in the region. Once a well-known Yugoslav ski centre, today the place is valued more for the mountain and the snow itself than for its infrastructure, which has not been significantly renewed for years. For that reason Brezovica is more popular for day trips and for skiers seeking open mountain terrain than as a fully equipped resort for a long stay. Beyond the groomed pistes, the mountain offers a wide open expanse prized by experienced skiers and by ski-touring enthusiasts. The village below the ski area is a starting point with small lodgings and eateries. For many skiers from Skopje and Tetovo it is a single-day outing, setting off in the morning and returning the same evening. Because of the altitude the weather on the mountain is cold and the snow is often dry, so before setting off it is worth checking the current snow situation and whether the lifts are running. Winters are cold and snowy, with a ski season that usually runs from December to March, and on the higher parts the snow often lingers later, depending on the conditions of the season.
