Santorini is a volcanic island in the Cyclades, in the central Aegean, recognisable by its steep caldera and the white villages that hang above it. The island was formed by a great volcanic eruption, so it has no classic sandy beaches but rocky, volcanic-coloured shores. Santorini is a destination for views, sunsets and quiet couples more than for a family beach holiday. For Macedonian visitors it is reached by flight, most often on package trips.
